Glossary
Every term, defined.
The words used on the boards, the rank card and this site, in plain English.
Ado Rank
A student’s standing among others the same age: a title, a place (“#96 of 1,204”) and a share (“Top 8%”). Built from the best 3 subjects, earned every day, never reset and never bought.
Ado Crown
A dated yearly honour for the top 1% of each age group, taken on 31 March. Written with its year, e.g. “Ado Crown 2027”.
Ado Rank score
The number behind the title: the average of a student’s best 3 subject ratings, each taken as a cautious estimate (the rating minus its uncertainty).
Title
The name for a level of the Ado Rank, lowest first: Rookie, Challenger, Contender, Elite, Prime, Legend.
Age group (band)
Students are ranked only against their own age group: Sprout (6–8), Spark (9–11), Surge (12–14), Apex (15–17), Orbit (18–22). Students aged 18–22 never share a board with anyone younger.
Placement
The first 3 dailies, after which a student gets a title and a place.
Provisional
A subject whose rating is still uncertain (a rating deviation above 150). It settles as the student plays.
Daily
The day’s 8 ranked questions, including the sprint. A new one opens every morning.
Sprint
60 seconds of quick, computed questions inside the daily.
Daily Podium
The top three of an age group on a day’s daily.
League
A weekly race in a group of about 30 students the same age, at a similar level. It closes on Sunday at 21:00; the top 5 move up a tier and the bottom 5 move down.
League tier
The league ladder, lowest first: Bronze, Silver, Gold, Sapphire, Ruby, Emerald, Amethyst, Pearl, Diamond.
Champion
The student who finishes first in their league group in a week.
Weekly Challenge
A bigger set in 3 parts across the week, worth extra points, closing on Sunday at 21:00.
Cup
A free competition over two league weeks, with certificates and trophies for the top of each age group.
Stars
1 to 5 stars in each subject, from the same cautious estimate as the rank, so strengths and gaps are plain to see.
Streak
Days in a row with a daily played. Badges at 7, 30, 100, 365 days; a streak freeze covers a missed day.
Handle
A made-up name, like BraveOtter41, shown on boards with a first name only if the family chooses.
Rank card
The card a student can share: their handle, title, place and league. Never an age, a school, where they live or a photo.
Verified rank statement
A dated record of a student’s Ado Rank, with a code anyone can check at adorank.com/verify. The family can withdraw it.
Kept for good. Never bought.
An olympiad is one morning a year. The Ado Rank is earned every day, against students the same age, and kept. It never resets, and nothing bought can change it.
For parents of students aged 6–17. Free to start, free to rank.
